Immune System Gem: Dry Skin Brushing

You will need a good quality, natural bristle brush. The Body Shop has a natural bristle (cactus), wooden handled.

I also use a smaller special facial brush for my face (also made of natural bristles).

The skin is the largest elimination organ of the body, therefore it plays a vital role in ridding the body of toxins and impurities that are a potential source of illness. Dry skin brushing is recommended as a way of opening the pores of the skin and cleaning the lymphatic system. When the pores of the skin are not clogged with dead cells and the lymphatic system is cleansed, the body is able to carry out its important function of eliminating toxins and waste material.

Skin Brushing Tips

  • Every 2 to 4 weeks, wash your brush and let it dry in the sun
  • Never share your brush
  • Never brush irritated or infected areas of the body
  • Brush scalp regularly to remove dead cells and to promote hair growth
  • Brush facial skin with care and use a facial skin brush
  • Always shower after skin brushing
  • Using soap results in decreased body oil. No oil means no interaction with sunlight to form Vitamin E. Natural soaps are far better. Do not soap the whole body, just underarms and groin area. Rinse soap off thoroughly to avoid clogging your pores.

 

 

How to do it

  • Start with gentle brushing, as the skin gets toned you can brush more heavily. Always brush towards the heart. Women should avoid brushing the breasts. Never wet the brush. Brush until the skin gets a red glow. This takes 5-10 minutes each morning before you shower. You will feel great afterwards.
  • If you are doing a detoxing process, brush twice a day, if not do it once a day. Brushing at night before bed can be relaxing, in the morning it is stimulating.
  • Start by gently brushing my face in upward and circular motions. Up the sides of the face, 7 times on each side, back and forth across the area between the lips and nose 7 times, circular motions 7 times each way on the chin, cheeks and forehead.
  • Then move to the neck. Brush up and down at the base of the skull, 14 times, then back and forth at the back of the neck 14 times.
    Now brush 7 times from the base of the ear towards the center of the body under the chin. Followed by 7 times brushing from the back of the neck to the center of the neck, Repeat again from lower on the neck/top of the shoulders, 7 times. Now do the same thing on the other side of the neck.
  • Brush back and forth along each finger, into the hand, 7 times and in the web between the thumb and index finger 14 times. Do all the fingers inside and outside.
    Now brush up from the wrist to the elbow, all the way around the arm, do each area 7 times.
    Then brush up from the elbow to the shoulder all the way around the arm, 7 times in each area.
    Brush the armpit in a circular motion, 14 times each way.
    Repeat with the other arm
  • Move to your feet. Brush back and forth, toes to heel, the sole of the foot, 14 times. Brush the top of the foot 7 times in each area back and forth across the toes, near the ankle, the back of the ankle and both sides of the foot.
    Now brush up from the ankle to the knee all the way around the lower leg, brush 7 times in each area.
    Move to the upper leg and repeat this all the way around the leg.
    In the groin brush in a circular motion 7 times in each direction.
    Brush the buttocks in a circular motion, 7 times in each direction.
    Repeat with the other leg.
  • brushBrush up and down one side of the body 14 times, then brush back and forth starting at the hip and moving up to the armpit, 14 times, brush your way back down in the same way, 14 times.
    Repeat on the other side.
  • Brush back and forth across the belly 7 times, then up across the belly button and then above the belly button, under the breast. Each time brush across and back 7 times.
    Brush over the solar plexus in a circular motion 14 times in each direction.
  • Brush back and forth across the back, as far as you can reach in the same way.
    Brush up and down the spine 14 times (it helps if you have someone to do this for you).
    Brush up and down the sides of the back 7 times. On each side.
  • You can close by thumping the thymus area (mid-chest)  30 times using a waltz rhythm (123 pause 123…), to wake the thymus up. The thymus is our immune system master gland.
